That sure seems to be the case. What goes right over the top of my head is the apparrent Japanese reverence for items that were made in America roughly about the same time as Fat Man and Little Boy...

(comment is merely a factual curiousity, not an ethnic slur).

But does anybody see the correlation between the ending of manufacturing in the USA and the exporting of jobs, and were the money is being spent.Hmmm How is this progress ?? :flagwaver: Sorry people I just bleed Red White & Blue = America and from my right arm Red White & Blue = Altec

Yeah, prices seem pretty crazy on this stuff.

I got lucky last year and picked up a pair of 1003 Tar filled horns with, what I believe to be, RWB 288's for $250 on craig's list. Very good 'shape' but they have been painted, not that I'm complaining...

These things are so f'ing heavy I've been unable to try them out even though they are in the same room as my MR-64/288 8K's.

[Altec Best]

Yes I know they are real heavy, Let me give you a tip when you want to move them make sure the drivers aren't on them they are a lot easier to move around without the drivers.I have a pair of 1005A's they are a little smaller than the 1003's but still heavy as heck.

I thought about taking the drivers off, but they don't weigh that much (30lb) relative to the total weight of the horn (must be about 150-200lb each).

It's not too bad with two guys, I had a neighbor help me get them out of the truck when I bought them, but there was no way we could get them upstairs. I've since moved and I had the moving guys get them into the right room, now I just need to swap them out for the MR-64's, but I'm not strong enough to do that by myself with injury.

The story goes that these came out of Union train station in CO.

Actually I think they are, my 1005's are around 70 Lbs. with drivers close to 100 but they are bulky a hundred pound bulky object is something you have to wrestle with.

But they sound Fabulous and worth every broken knuckle, scrape, and bruise to get them in place. One of the best pair of horns I ever bought !!!!
